Racial discrimination cases again appeared in a recent incident where a Dallas 911 operator was fired after posting a litany of racist messages on her Facebook page brazenly attacking African Americans.

Though the very nature of her job required the 23-year-old to be concerned about and sensitive to the needs and welfare of all the area’s residents, writings on the Facebook page attributed to April Sims clearly suggest she had no use, tolerance or affinity for blacks.

“Black people are outrageous! ” reads one post. “They never know how to act, just loud [expletive]. Always causing problems, I can count one hand the black people I know who don’t have {expletive) for brains.”

And that was just the start. When questioned by another Facebook member as to what she thought Dallas Police Chief David Brown and other top city officials might think of her uneven views, she retorted “I stand by every word I said. And do not apologize.”

Dallas Police cited violation of the department’s social media policy as the official reason for her termination and noted that the actions taken against her cannot be appealed.

As for the overall damage inflicted by Sims’ tirade, that may not prove so easy to erase. In writing, the poster estimates she considered only about five percent of the calls she answered to be “real emergencies.” The overwhelming majority, she added, were instances where she had to “baby sit” grown men and women.

“You want to call 911 cause your boyfriend put his hand on you and you want to press charges when you don’t even know his real name?” another post reads. “Sure, let’s make a police report for Dino, that is his street name.”

Dallas City Council member Dwaine Caraway took to the airwaves to argue not only are the comments a poor reflection on Sims and the department, they cast grave aspersions on the city as a whole. “Number one, I’m shocked and it saddens me to know that this is still going on and taking place in today’s time,” he said.

Still, even thoughts as temperate as those were not enough to dissuade the poster’s hardline way of thinking. “I’m a very easy going person,” another post rationalized. “I will give the shirt off my back to help others, but when call after call are black people fighting and screaming and hitting each other and they want to yell at me and treat me like {expletive} when I’m trying to help, is not cool.”

Still on Sims’ page, the poster than goes on to lament how her boyfriend was recently robbed at gunpoint by two black men who held a gun to his stomach. “They are more like animals, they never know how to act,” the post concludes.

Sims was among dozens of call takers hired over the last year by the department after a Dallas Morning News investigation found the 911 center was extremely and chronically understaffed.

Just last summer, the family of a local woman found her dead in a bathtub two days after she called 911 pleading for help from an attack perpetrated by her estranged husband. In a tape of the call, the victim can be heard choking and pleading for her life, but a 911 operator failed to properly field the call and did not pass in on to dispatchers.
