The holidays are over so now it’s officially time to figure out where you want to go to get out of the cold. Think Mexico and explore the rich diversity of our southern neighbors. Consider the fact that many airlines are offering deals right now before the next peak travel time during March’s spring break.

Mazatlan
Mazatlan is one of those destinations with a romantic ring to it and for good reason. Sitting on the ocean and the Sea of Cortez, the port of Mazatlan is still as nostalgic as it ever was offering guests a blend of the cities noble past with the modern world.

A real draw to Mazatlan is the art and culture, and a good place to start is the Machado Plaza. The 19th century architecture offers a glimpse into the way the historic homes have given way to the modern bars, sidewalk cafes, art galleries, and handicraft shops.

Of course with the history come great cuisine, deep-sea fishing, and nightlife up and down the Golden Zone strip. Get crazy with the other tourists or spend a romantic night alone, anything goes in Mazatlan. www.gomazatlan.com

Marriot’s Cancun Experience
In Cancun, the JW Marriott offers a snug and relaxing feeling with a Mayan inspired spa that provides traditional treatments handed down from generation to generation in the Mayan culture. Of the many experiences at the spa, take advantage of the Mayan Herbal Exfoliation that uses a blend of native herbs, oats, and herbal oils applied and massaged into the skin. Or try the Hyradermie facial, which is excellent for mature skin and offers the latest advances in skincare, ionization, and high frequency.

An option for a one-day excursion is swimming with the Whale sharks, which are in the waters around Cancun during their yearly migration. Get up close and personal with these amazing and gentle creatures, they reach up to 40-feet long, and are one of the biggest animal species in the world, and the planet’s largest fish. www.marriott.com

Barcelo Hotel and Resorts in Los Cabos
Los Cabos has a good reputation so head down to the Barcelo Los Cabos Palace Deluxe and feel right at home. The grounds of the Barcelo Hotel and Resorts offer a tropical atmosphere with white sandy beaches extending as far as the eye can see, yep, 650-feet wide and half-a-mile long.

One event to enjoy on at least one night of your visit is the Grand Theatre with shows offering everything from International to a take on “Glee” called “Blee,” or even a Mexicano Show.

A short sightseeing trip to historic San Juan Del Cabo allows you to visit the art galleries lining the streets, or other local shops with handicrafts and homemade wares. The town square is where live entertainment is a common occurrence on the weekends, so time your trip to correspond with a crazy night in Mexico, and a dinner at one of the small holes in the wall. www.barcelo.com
