The U.S. Justice Department has sued a southern Illinois mobile home park, alleging it violated the Fair Housing Act by discriminating against African-Americans and families with children.

The lawsuit alleges owner Lorraine Wallschlaeger and several employees imposed requirements on African-Americans interested in living at Four Seasons Estates Mobile Home Park in Effingham they did not impose on white prospective tenants. Among them was completion of a written application and having their mobile homes inspected before being accepted into the park.

The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. It seeks an end to discrimination and monetary penalties.

Wallschlaeger has an unlisted telephone and couldn't be reached for comment. A telephone call to Four Seasons Estates Mobile Home Park for comment wasn't immediately returned.

They are paying customers. It

They are paying customers. It does not make sense that they would not let them in the park. Maybe their homes were inspected and they did not pass. That is unintelligent on the trailer parks part. I do not understand why you would turn away paying customers because you do not like their color. They would be paying you and their color does not make your trailer park worth less. She deserves what comes to her.

Today's Society

Today's society usually has one mind set, make money so we can get the new and expensive things. Money, money, money is what most people think about to provide for themselves and their families. It is sad to see that money is the most important thing in this world, but it is even more sad to see that people are still discriminating against people of a different skin tone. They are paying customers and just because they are of a different color does not mean they will make the trailer park worth less. With each race you have, you have the different dynamics. Not all African-Americans act the same and not all white people act the same.
