Currently, it is estimated that more than twelve million illegal/undocumented immigrants from Mexico live in the United States. At the same time, the 2010 Census confirmed that Hispanic Americans are the largest and fastest growing minority population in the United States, not including the twelve million undocumented Mexican immigrants.

When I look at the behavior of Congress during this last year — failure to pass the American Jobs Bill, now failure of the Super Committee to arrive at much-needed cuts in the federal budget — voters should take a lesson from Ole’ Saint Nick as he prepares his sleigh with presents to be delivered for Christmas. Members of Congress certainly have not been “good for goodness sake.”

As the end of another year approaches, and we prepare to celebrate yet another Holiday Season when we are harkened back to old family traditions that include taking time to prepare old fashioned homemade meals, getting reacquainted and basking in the comfort of family and friends, it is unlikely that we will be able to totally escape the sense of unease, and disconnectedness we feel about the times we live in today in the United States and the world.
