Stereotypes and labels wield a lot of persuasive power, intentionally or unintentionally in our daily lives.

We trust the labels on the commodities (clothes, foods, etc.) that we buy, often grabbing and purchasing without reading the fine print — totally unaware of the content or any changes, updates that could be there. And, yet we fancy ourselves as being informed consumers.

The economic downturn that has communities all across America in its grip seems to have no immediate end in sight because of forces here at home and those playing out on the global stage. But as we focus on issues at the national level, the plight of the most vulnerable, and those least prepared to weather sustained unemployment and all the negative conditions that go along with it, too often slips from view.

What is racism?


The definition of racism is generally described as one’s belief that their race or ethnicity accounts for differences in character or ability, which makes them superior to others. Racism has become so ingrained in society because children began witnessing racial discrimination and prejudicial practices at an early age and it carries into adulthood.
