Most people understand that racism is wrong. However, it has become increasingly challenging for people to identify clear examples of racism in their daily lives, unless they are extreme. Few challenge the seemingly racist joke, the offhand remark dismissing an entire group, or the subtle behaviors that continue to put People of Color in a one-down position while reinforcing white people’s one-up position. Why are we so reluctant to speak? And what can we do about it?

LONDON (AP) — Damaged by a yearlong racism case involving John Terry, English soccer will ask Premier League players to don anti-racism T-shirts during the warm-up for matches this weekend.

Football Association chairman David Bernstein said Friday that Terry's decision not to contest a four-match ban for racially abusing an opponent during a league game "hopefully brings to a close a difficult period for the domestic game in England."

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The colorful and musical New Orleans neighborhood called Treme is marking the 200th anniversary of its origins as an early melting pot for the city and the U.S.

Treme is considered one of America's most unusual neighborhoods and holds significant place in the history of jazz. It is also getting some new energy thanks in part to the spotlight provided by the HBO series "Treme."

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The Mississippi NAACP is asking federal judges to redraw the state House and Senate districts that were approved by the Justice Department last month. The group also wants the judges to set new legislative elections in 2013, two years ahead of the normal schedule.
