In 2006, Dr. Prado earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Southern California. His dissertation titled “A Critical Social Capital Analysis of Educational Tracking in the West San Gabriel Valley.” (Dissertation Committee: Ricardo Stanton-Salazar, Ph.D., Chair of Committee; Leland Saito, Ph.D., Robert Rueda, Ph.D.). While conducting extensive research for his dissertation, he collected interview data, observational data, textual data, and other qualitative data. The research followed a critical network analysis protocol. While he collected observational and textual data, he first conducted structured interviews. Following the structured interviews were semi-structured and un-structured interviews of high school students, parents, community professionals, public school teachers and administrators. Dr. Prado has published several papers, including “Social Capital and the Educational Trajectories of Two Chinese Students and One Latina Student,” “An Interview with Ilan Stavans,” and “English for the Children: The Sentencing of Spanish Speaking Students.” Read more.
