Conversation Of The Week XLVI: Racial & Ethnic Challenges For Victims Of Domestic Violence
Victims of interpersonal violence face many challenges when trying to navigate through an abusive relationship. The dynamics of interpersonal violence are very complex and each situation has its’ own unique challenges. For people of color that are being victimized, intersecting oppressions such as institutionalized racism, gender oppression, and classism need to be taken into consideration when trying to construct procedures to help victims escape an abusive relationship.

Issue Of The Week XXXXIV: Intersections Of Race And Gender In Online Games
Gaming has always been a joy of mine; I started playing games when I was a little girl and fell in love with the gaming world. I would play on the computer, the Playstation, the Nintendo 64, the Gamecube, the Gameboy, etc. However, I had no idea that when I started playing online games, I would see so much sexism, misogyny, and racism towards myself and others that I would be reluctant to play the games I loved. I was made to feel like a lesser person at many points.

Issue Of The Week XXXXII: How Conforming To Media And Social Stereotypes Leads To Oppression
As a black woman, I face stereotypes that are associated with the color of my skin and my gender, but I also have my share of privileges. I am able-bodied and can take care of myself without assistance from any outside sources, I have had the privilege to have traveled to three different continents, and I have also been able to further my education by attending graduate school. Despite the few privileges that I have mentioned, there are still forms of oppression that I continue to deal with today.

Issue Of The Week XXXII: I’ll Have A Combo Please…..An Idealized Version Of American History And Fries
Over the weekend, my children and I were out doing our weekly grocery shopping at Wal-Mart. My daughter is 14, and my son is 18. As we walk in, they are both whining (yes…even the 18 year old) about how hungry they were. Conveniently and very strategically located right inside of Wal-Mart is a McDonald’s so I figured, “”hey, you guys can go get some McDonald’s and I will have a chance to shop in peace.”” We walked over to McDonalds and I became enthralled with a huge mural painted on the wall in the eating area.

Conversation Of The Week XXX: The Various Forms Of Racism
Searching for literature review sources, the complexity of understanding racism in our modern day society can’t be overstated. Terminology angst filled me. What I thought would be a simple search for a working definition of racism turned into an exploration of the intricacies of such a negatively powerful and emotive term.
