Anti-Semitic Violence And Vandalism Increasing
Anti-Semitic violence and vandalism is increasing, according to an annual report that tracks anti-Semitism across the world. Increases in anti-Semitic incidents are clearly on the rise in France, the United Kingdom, and other parts of Europe due to activity by extremist groups.

Incarcerated Black Men Can Turn Lives Around
As we commemorate Black History month, it is worth noting that many black men, once incarcerated, can turn their lives around, if given a chance.
No doubt, there are unsung programs all across the country dedicated to giving those who have been born into conditions that breed crime or have simply lost their way a second chance, a break, after they have served prison terms. Such programs just do not make the news as often as the crimes that caused the incarceration in the first place.

Europe Struggles With Racism At Football Games
For the last several months, Europe has been struggling with persistent racist incidents at football games — from Sophia, Bulgaria to Budapest, Hungary to Rome Italy. There have also been incidents in England.
The Bulgarian Football Union is appealing sanctions imposed by the FIFA for racist abuse by some of its fans toward players during a World Cup qualifying game. Some Bulgaria fans made monkey chants at Denmark player, Patrick Mtiliga. Mtiliga’s father is from Tanzania. The chants were made during the qualifying games in October.

A Presidential Inaugural Ceremony That Reflects America’s Diversity
The Presidential Inaugural Ceremony will be historical in many respects. In addition to the swearing in of the first African-American for a second term, participants will reflect on the growing diversity of America.
America is now 17 percent Hispanic, 14 percent African American, 6 percent Asian American, and 5 percent Native American.

Random And Racist Acts Of Violence
We, as Americans, must come to terms with both random and racist acts of violence. Instances of both types of pernicious and pre-meditated crimes against humanity occur all too often in what purports to be one of the most civilized societies.
How have we gone so far astray? How is that civility and reason are not screaming in our collective conscience that we have to get at the root causes of random and racist acts of violence?

Instead Of New Resolutions In 2013: Complete Those Of Previous Year
This is the time of year that we ponder new goals, make new resolutions only to see them fall by the wayside in a week or month or two. Instead of making new resolutions for 2013, why not do something novel like completing the old ones.
No doubt, we all have old resolutions that we have either totally forgotten having ever made, or simply gave up completing them. As a result, we may have experienced guilt, defeatism, inadequacy, and a host of other negative and non-productive feelings.
This year, why not give yourself a break.

Racist & Religious Hate Crimes
Hate crimes continue to occur, much too often, in communities across America and communities around the world. Many never make the evening news or the local newspaper, let alone gain national attention.
Lack of attention or mitigation of hate crimes, irrespective of their seriousness or degree, is both good and not-good. Good because the hate crime did not result in major injuries, loss of life or property; Not-good because we often become insensitive to the lesser crimes, which also cause harm.

2012 Republican Convention: Diversity Window Dressing & Group Amnesia
During the 2012 Republican Convention, diversity window dressing and collective amnesia about the systemic racial discrimination in this country was in full regalia.
Throughout the convention, a parade of new minority faces crossed the stage. There was Mia Love, a black, Mormon mayor of a small town in Utah who is currently running for Congress. Are we to believe that she is just one of many black Republicans, of many black Mormons? Or many such combinations thereof? Hardly!
